Happy New Year!

With Christmas past it is time to start thinking about the forth coming sailing season and some OB events for 2011!

Firstly, we are looking to repeat the successful Spring Cruise we ran in 2010.

Once again, all OB's, Staff and pupils are welcome whether you are an experienced Skipper (please say if you would be available to Skipper a boat) or if you have never even been on a boat-this is a great opportunity to try sailing for the first time if you have never had the opportunity. Please feel free to bring your family or friends if you wish. Obviously, if you have your own boat we would also love you to join us!

We are hoping Sir Robin Knox Johnston will be able to join us again this year- as with last year, berths on his boat will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so get your cheques in quickly!

Dates: Friday 20th May to Sunday 22nd May

Crews would join their boats and Skippers on the Friday evening for a safety briefing, introduction to the yacht and to stow their kit & food. Depending on the arrival times and the inclination of the crew, the boat may either depart for another location that night or, more likely, food and refreshments would be sought in a local hostel!

Saturday will be spent sailing and exploring the delights of the Solent by sail with the possibility of a lunch time stop somewhere. Then, all yachts will meet up at The Folly Inn, on the Isle of Wight, for an evening of food, drink and a little dancing on the tables to live music!

Following breakfast on Sunday morning, yachts shall depart for some more sailing with a view to getting back to their starting point by late afternoon. Following a clean up of the yachts, crews will then be able to depart at their leisure. For an idea of what went on last year, please feel free to look at the photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/obsc2010

Costs:

- £90 per person to cover the charter of the yachts for the weekend.
- As an additional option, we are also able offer some OBSC merchandise at a discounted rate such as caps, beanies, polo shirts etc- more information to follow.
- Food, drink, mooring fees and yacht diesel costs will be in addition to the above but will be divided up by the crew on each boat.
- The charter yachts carry a Security deposit of either £850 or £1000. In the unlikely event that damage should occur, the whole crew of the yacht would be liable for an equal share of this. (Someone from each crew will need to leave their credit card details with Firstaway for security although no money will be deducted unless damage occurs.)
- If you wish to join this event in your own yacht, please contact me.

Booking your place:

Places on this trip are limited so they shall be offered on a first come, first served basis. We shall be assigning people to boats initially on experience to try and get a good mix of more and less experienced crew. If you wish to be with someone specific or have a ready made crew, please mention it and we shall do our best to accommodate your requests.

To secure your place, please send your cheque made out to "The Old Berkhamstedian's SC" to me at:

1 Chapel Crofts, Northchurch, Herts HP4 3XG

Also for 2011

We are trying to see if we have enough interest to run some other events so would appreciate your feedback. We wondered whether anyone would be keen on doing the 80th Round The Island Race (http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk/) on Saturday 25th June. Again, we would be looking for crew of all experiences and would need to get a firm commitment fairly soon to arrange a yacht and entry. Please let me know if you are keen.

Similarly, if you would be interested in taking part in an OB Autumn Regatta where we charter an identical fleet of Sunsail yachts and have a 'round the cans' racing weekend around the Solent. Again, please let me know if you are interested.

I hope you can join us for this event and please feel free to give me a call on my mobile below if you have any questions or concerns that are stopping you from coming on board!!

Kind regards,
